FLORIDA: A high school teacher of the year was suspended for three days without pay for touching a female student with a banana. Jonathan Hampton, a former Teacher of the Year at North Marion High School in Marion County, Florida, was accused of rubbing the banana over the student’s head and neck during a Freudian psychology lecture.
Three months after banana-gate, the student’s parents came forward and said the banana touching crossed the line. Hampton’s attorney said the banana was part of his client’s lunch and that he only tapped the student to get her attention.
The school district concluded that the teacher-student contact warranted the reprimand and suspension for professional misconduct even though “Freudian” discussion is part of the curriculum in the college-level course.
I wonder if there would have been the same reaction if the offending fruit had been an apple?

One question why did it take 3 months for the parents to come forward with this complaint?
In giving the parents the benefit of the doubt, my guess is that they made the outcry when they found out. A reasonable person would not hold on to outrage for three months if they felt their daughter had been inappropriately touched.
