CHICAGO: A student who dreamed of being named King Prankster of his high school spiked the school cafeteria’s marinara sauce with hot sauce. But this was no ordinary, over the counter hot sauce. Da Bomb offers a special blend of hot peppers and prides itself on its near toxicity. It’s not clear which variety was used in the prank but at least one variety, “Final Answer Hot Sauce” has the same strength as US law-enforcement-grade pepper spray. When a fellow student bit into his meal, his mouth lit up like a fire breathing dragon. His complaint prompted an investigation by cafeteria staff. Three of the staffers were overcome by the fumes when they sniffed the plate of spaghetti and were hospitalized.
In the end, it was the student behind the prank who got burned. Police, hot under the collar, dropped Da bomb on him. He has been charged with five counts of misdemeanor battery.
