GEORGIA: Most students with a failing grade suck it up and take their lumps, but leave it to one college student to come up with a creative way to avoid telling the parents. Fake a kidnapping. Authorities say 19-year-old Aftab Aslam bought a cellphone and texted his parents a phony story about being kidnapped. He camped out in the wilderness of Forsyth County for about a week but cold, rainy weather drove him back home.
Aslam is charged with making a false report, false statements, tampering with evidence and terroristic threats. He was held without bail.
With three misdemeanors and a felony under his cap, this failing student could land himself a prison sentence of 8 years.
The shame of this is not only did he cause his parents to suffer a pound of flesh in worry but he is responsible for wasting the valuable time of law enforcement who could have been out looking for real kidnapped victims. For this hapless deed, the kidnap kid has earned the well-deserved time he will spend in jail waiting for his first appearance.
If Aslam thought he was in hot water with the parents, wait until he faces a superior court judge.
