GEORGIA: A Georgia attorney accused of making sexual advances and performing a lewd act against a female client pleaded guilty to public indecency and sexual battery. Prosecutors said William Hall represented the client in legal proceedings involving child support. When the client came to his office to pick up her check, she asked Hall how she would pay for his services. 73-year old Hall proposed having sex, then committed a lewd act before touching her inappropriately. The victim fled and called police. Hall was sentenced to 30 days of house arrest and 24 months probation.
“It was a bad joke that just went horribly wrong,” said Hall as he left the DeKalb County Courthouse.
“We don’t think this is a laughing matter,” said prosecutor Sherry Boston who is seeking to have Hall’s bar licensed revoked.
I agree. Does this not offend us all? It’s tragic enough that Hall committed this crime against anyone, but to have committed it against a client is a herculean fail. I don’t think we need the ethics code or standards of professionalism to tell us this conduct is unacceptable. That Hall defends his behavior by calling it a “bad joke” says he still doesn’t get it. Shame on you Mr. Hall. You have embarrassed the legal profession.
